Choosing to pay a higher excess in return for premiums cheaper home insurance could be a false economy, according to moneysupermermarket.com.

Families should also know the difference between the excess of voluntary and compulsory excess, moneysupermarket warns, as the voluntary excess which the insured agrees to pay the excess will also be required to be paid by your insurer.
